Charity Focus of 2016 K&M Tire Dealer Conference

The 2016 K&M Tire Dealer Conference and trade show was held January 14th and 15th at the Overland Park Convention Center just outside of Kansas City – the middle of our territory.

This year instead of inviting a celebrity to speak during our morning general session, K&M Tire highlighted the work of our longtime charity partner, Food for the Poor Inc. Angel Aloma, executive director of the international agency, talked about the Florida-based group’s work, and the more than $1 billion in aid sent to 17 countries in 2015.

Yokohama Tire Corp. donated $20,000 to our new philanthropic board, K&M Cares. We split that donation into two gifts: $10,000 was presented to Food for the Poor. Then one of our Yokohama Advantage dealers was chosen through a raffle and given the remaining $10,000 to donate to a charity of its choice. Dan and Tim Ronda from Ronda Auto Centers in Michigan split that gift between two charities, giving $5,000 each to Kids Food Basket and Volunteers in Service.

K&M Tire's Philanthropy Board

K&M Tire has been a big supporter of our community and many different organizations through the years. In efforts to organize our fund raising activities and better serve our communities, we have elected a Philanthropy Board of Directors.

Two of our foundational principles are making a positive difference in our communities and possessing a servant's attitude. Our employees have come together and raised money for many great organizations such as the Relay For Life, Food for the Poor, United Way and many others.

K&M employees nominated fellow workers for the Board. Ken Langhals, President of K&M Tire, and Cheryl Gossard, Vice President of K&M Tire, will be permanent board members. The other board positions will be elected every two years.  Elected to serve on the initial board were: Donna Burgei, Accounts Payable Supervisor; Nancy Fischer, HR Specialist; Brian Gossard, Vice President of Operations; Katie Ringwald, Credit & Collections Supervisor; Pam Rosswurm, HR Manager; Sergio Villasana, Inside Sales Representative; and Mandy Weimerskirch, Controller.

The board will be responsible for setting the direction of our philanthropy efforts.

Before the voting commenced, those nominated had to write two short essays on why philanthropy is important to K&M Tire and why it is important to them personally.

We would like to congratulate our new Philanthropy Board as we look forward to seeing the direction our philanthropy efforts will take in the future.
